Realistic Apple Nail Art: Creating Fruit Nails with Layered Sheer Gel
Sometimes nail art inspiration can come from something as simple as looking closely at an everyday object.
With schools returning after the summer holidays, apples felt like the perfect inspiration for this set. Rather than painting little illustrations of apples, I wanted to recreate the colours and appearance of apple skin across the whole nail.
Creating the apple skin effect
I used the Neko Gel Juicy Collection, layering different sheer colours to build the reds, pinks, yellows and greens you see naturally running through apple skin.
Working with translucent colour allowed the different shades to overlap and show through one another rather than creating solid blocks of colour. Each nail developed slightly differently, helping to give the finished design a more natural, organic appearance.
I then added 3D water droplets over the finished colour to create the effect of droplets sitting on fresh fruit.
A different approach to fruit nail art
This is a different take on the more typical cute or illustrative apple nail design. Instead of painting the apple itself, I focused on recreating its colour, texture and surface across the nail.
That’s something I love about looking beyond nail art for inspiration. You don’t always have to paint the object itself. Sometimes its colours, textures and patterns can become the starting point for something completely different.
