Starting your own nail business is exciting, but let’s be honest - there’s a lot to figure out that no one really tells you. Most accredited nail qualifications teach you how to do nails, but they don’t prepare you for the business side of things - how to set your prices, register your business, attract clients, or actually make a profit. It can feel overwhelming, but don’t worry - I’ve worked it all out so you don’t have to. As an educator, I’ve seen these gaps in knowledge first hand, that’s why I created this guide.
“Brush Up on Your Business Skills: A Guide for Nail Technicians” is your no-nonsense, jargon-free guide to getting started the right way. Whether you’re working in a salon, from home, or as a mobile technician, this ebook breaks down everything you need to know into clear, practical steps. From registering your business and handling finances to building a strong brand and growing your client base, I’ll walk you through the essentials with real-world advice that actually makes sense.
And because I know how important it is to stay organised, I’ve included printable templates for client consultation forms, cash flow planning, price lists, cancellation policies, and more - so you can start your business with confidence.

Designed to be practical, affordable, and immediately useful. Written by an award-winning nail technician and educator with real salon and teaching experience.
Health and safety isn’t the exciting part of being a nail technician, but it’s one of the most important. Whether you’re working from home, in a salon, or as a mobile nail technician, understanding your legal responsibilities and industry best practice protects both you and your clients.
Most training courses touch on health and safety, but many technicians still feel unsure about risk assessments, COSHH, ventilation requirements, insurance obligations, record keeping, and what is actually expected of them in a professional setting.
You’ll learn how to:
Create a safer working environment
Understand your legal responsibilities
Complete essential paperwork confidently
Protect yourself and your clients
Build professional systems that support compliance
Includes printable resources:
Risk assessment templates
COSHH assessment templates
Accident record forms
Consultation paperwork
Cleaning schedules
By the end of this guide you’ll feel more confident about:
Working safely and professionally
Meeting industry standards
Managing paperwork and compliance
Creating a safer experience for clients
